IEEE P3233 Standard Launch Meeting Recap: The First Step Towards Decentralized Storage Standardization

On August 30th, 2024, the IEEE P3233 “Standard for Blockchain-Based Decentralized Storage Protocol Specification” launch meeting, initiated by CESS and IEEE, was successfully held. This meeting marked the official commencement of the IEEE P3233 standardization process, representing the beginning of the journey towards the standardization of decentralized storage technology.

The launch meeting attracted experts, innovators, and representatives from various organizations within the storage industry. Joseph Li, Co-Founder of CESS and Chairman of the International Standard Working Group for this protocol, led discussions with participating IEEE members on the roadmap for developing this standard and its profound impact on the future of decentralized storage technology.

The Significance of the IEEE P3233 Standard

The IEEE P3233 standard aims to establish a unified framework for decentralized storage technology, driving the industry towards higher standards in performance, security, and privacy protection. By setting these standards, IEEE P3233 will not only facilitate the widespread adoption of decentralized storage technology but also set new benchmarks for data management and security across various industries in the future.

Meeting Agenda and Key Discussions

The launch meeting focused on several key issues:

  • Meeting Overview and Agenda Approval: Joseph Li outlined the main agenda of the meeting, emphasizing the necessity of establishing strong standards and frameworks to ensure the integrity, security, and scalability of decentralized storage solutions. The agenda was unanimously approved by all participants, laying the foundation for a series of discussions and decisions that would ensure the transparency and openness of the IEEE P3233 standardization process.

The meeting was attended by renowned enterprises and institutions from the industry, including the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., Shanghai Conflux Blockchain Research Institute, TravelSky Technology Limited, IEIT Systems Co. Ltd., The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, etc. Voting members from these organizations actively participated in the discussions and voting process. This collective consensus demonstrates widespread support and high recognition within the industry for advancing the IEEE P3233 standard. We sincerely invite more IEEE members to join the IEEE P3233 International Standard Working Group and work together to advance the standardization process of the decentralized storage industry.

  • Formation of the IEEE P3233 Working Group and Election of Officers: The working group, chaired by Joseph Li, will lead and oversee the development of the standard, ensuring that it meets industry needs and is forward-looking.*
  • Introduction to IEEE P3233 Standa*rd Background and Importance: Working group members discussed the background of this standard and its significance in the fields of decentralized storage and Web3.
  • Introduction to IEEE Patent and Copyright Policies: Jiajia Liu from IEEE SA provided an overview of IEEE’s patent and copyright policies, reminding all participants to disclose any potential patents when necessary. This transparency is crucial for maintaining the integrity and trust in the standardization process.

CESS’s Role and Technological Contributions

As a pioneer in the field of decentralized storage, Joseph Li showcased CESS’s innovative technologies and applications as a decentralized data infrastructure during the meeting, demonstrating CESS’s commitment and technical strength in contributing to the ongoing standardization process. Joseph Li highlighted CESS’s dedication to ensuring data privacy, security, and sovereignty. The innovations and applications of CESS technology not only set new benchmarks for decentralized storage but also provide strong support for the future development of the standard.

Looking Ahead: The Road to IEEE P3233 Standardization

The launch of the IEEE P3233 standard is just the first step, with a series of meetings and discussions to follow within the working group. In the next meeting, the working group will vote to elect the Vice Chair and will begin arrangements regarding the protocol framework and technical division of labor for the IEEE P3233 standard.

Members will continue to refine and improve this standard. As the standardization process progresses, decentralized storage technology is expected to achieve greater breakthroughs in performance, security, and scalability, laying a solid foundation for the development of Web3 and the broader blockchain ecosystem. CESS will continue to play a crucial role in this process, driving the standardization of decentralized storage technology and ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.

As the industry continues to evolve, the development of the IEEE P3233 standard will provide a solid foundation for the future growth of decentralized storage technology, contributing to the creation of a more secure, privacy-protective, and user-centric internet.
